Massive New Social Media Conservative Purge Kicks into High Gear

A brand-new bunch of conservative, libertarian and dissident right social media stars have just been banned and demonetized by the channels where they were making a living. Their voices were deliberately silenced, very publicly, for voicing opinions that the Silicon Valley Soy-Boy thought police don’t like.

We are rapidly approaching the point where we are either going to have to regulate and punish Big Tech while we still have the chance… or be silenced forever.

Comedian Steven Crowder was the biggest name to have his income effectively reduced to zero by Google-owned YouTube. They completely demonetized the popular conservative’s video channel.

Hundreds of lesser-known conservatives and Trump supporters, who were able to make some additional side income from YouTube, were also put on the chopping block.

I already know what many of my conservative friends are going to say when I mention regulating big tech.

Yes, I fully understand the fact that government regulation is not a libertarian or conservative principle. But imagine what things will be like a year from now, when the 2020 election is up for grabs.

Every time you log on to Facebook or Twitter, or try to visit YouTube, you will not be allowed to participate in the political discussion. Every leftist will have free rein to bash Donald Trump, bash conservatives and conservatism, and blather on and on about how sexy and interesting Kamala Harris is.

If you try to point out that, no, actually, Willie Brown’s mistress is an authoritarian hag who slept her way to the top and will wreck the economy with her dopey socialist plans, well… sorry, you’re banned from your own channel until after the election.

Some of us are old enough to remember what it was like when liberals had a complete stranglehold on public opinion.

We used to turn on the “news” every night and watch a fussy old communist named Walter Cronkite, who would tell us how awful and racist the icky America is, and how we had “lost” the Vietnam War (before it was over).

That’s what all of social media will look like a year from now if we don’t drop the hammer on Silicon Valley: Walter Cronkite.

And to all of our conservative and libertarian friends who are declaring, “But these are private companies! They have a right to decide who uses the platforms and who doesn’t!” Please stop being dumb. You’re not helping.

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other companies have a special exemption from Congress. Under the exemption, they are “platforms” rather than “publishers.” They promised that they would not censor content and assured Washington, DC that they were just platforms.

If they are choosing winners and losers by silencing conservatives and elevating liberal voices, they are acting as PUBLISHERS. With the exemption that regards them as platforms, individuals like Steven Crowder cannot sue them.

If they were legally considered publishers (which they are), Crowder would have a good case to sue them and win. The marketplace would therefore regulate the tech companies.

Think of it like the Americans with Disabilities Act. Which government agency regulates businesses under the ADA?

Answer: There isn’t one. Yet every business and public building put in a wheelchair ramp and does everything it can to comply with the ADA. If they don’t, the trial lawyers will swoop in and sue their pants off.

If Congress revoked Facebook’s exemption as a platform and declared it to be a publisher, lawyers would take care of the rest. We would never see another conservative kicked off of social media. Voila!

Social media is the public square in 2019. You may have a Facebook, Twitter or YouTube channel with 30 or 40 followers today and think that this is not a big deal. So what if they silence Crowder – he’s a big fish.

They’ll never censor your content, right? Think again. The tech companies started by purging guys like Alex Jones of InfoWars just a few months ago.

Now they’re purging Steven Crowder, Laura Loomer and others. Next it will be people like Tucker Carlson, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and so on. You’re on the list, too.

Sticking to your conservative or libertarian principles is incredibly dumb if those principles mean you will end up with less freedom.

Big Tech will strangle all of our voices if we don’t use every tool at our disposal to regulate them and make them treat liberal, conservative, libertarian and “fringe” voices equally. If we wait another year to act, it will probably be too late.
