The January 6 Committee Show Trial has wrapped up, and it’s unclear what’s going to happen next. What was the point of all that? Two days of show trial hearings have resulted in conflicting messages about the results. The alleged “Chairman” of the committee says that they won’t be making any criminal referrals against Donald Trump. But the ranking minority member on the illegal committee – Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) – says everyone should stay tuned. Which is it? And who has really been running this fake news show trial from the very beginning?
Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) was billed as the chairman of the fake, illegally formulated January 6 Committee. The committee was supposed to have 5 Republicans on it, according to the House Resolution that created it in the first place. Instead, the only two “Republicans” were the Trump-hating Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. The committee, therefore, was illegal from the get-go.
Thompson spoke publicly as if he were the real chairman of the committee. But after two days of fake, one-sided hearings, he announced that the committee would not be making any criminal referrals against anyone. Referring to criminal referrals, Thompson stated:
“That’s not our job. Our job is to look at January 6 – what caused it – and make recommendations. We don’t have the authority.”
You kind of have to wonder what committee Thompson has been paying attention to, in order to make a statement like that. The January 6 Committee had people arrested on Contempt of Congress charges – something that almost never happens. Steven Bannon was arrested by the Justice Department. Peter Navarro was literally arrested by the FBI just a few days ago for refusing to cooperate with the committee that Thompson now claims doesn’t have law enforcement authority.
Over the weekend, the Stalinesque committee issued a subpoena for a guy named Bill Stepien. He was one of Donald Trump’s campaign managers in 2020 and was one of the creators of the Stop the Steal rally in DC on January 6. But that’s not the only interesting thing about Stepien. His current job is running the campaign of Harriet Hageman in Wyoming. Hageman is Liz Cheney’s primary opponent, and she’s leading Cheney by 30 points in the polls.
That sounds an awful lot like law enforcement and political retaliation (which it definitely is). It also makes it appear as if Liz Cheney is the one who is really running the January 6 Committee – not Bennie Thompson.
The one-sided nature of the committee’s public show trials is what has really been striking to people. No one from Donald Trump’s campaign or from the Stop the Steal rally has been allowed to speak in defense of Trump at the hearings. It’s entirely partisan, with no debate and no dissenting thoughts allowed. They seem to think this is going to work with the public.
But then again, it’s par for the course with Nancy Pelosi and her illegitimate lawfare attacks on Donald Trump. During the first impeachment hearing against Donald Trump, Pelosi skipped over holding hearings and an investigation in the House Judiciary Committee. (That was the impeachment over Trump’s perfect and perfectly legal phone call with the president of Ukraine.) Pelosi just jumped ahead to the full House trial, without a real investigation or any debate in the Judiciary Committee. Historically, all previous impeachment proceedings started in the Judiciary Committee. And Pelosi handled it even worse during the second impeachment over January 6. She held a snap impeachment, without holding a single hearing.
That’s pretty much what the entirety of the January 6 Committee hearings have been: Completely one-sided, no dissent allowed.
After Bennie Thompson announced there would be no criminal referrals from the committee on Monday, Liz Cheney stated this:
“The January 6th Select Committee has not issued a conclusion regarding potential criminal referrals. We will announce a decision on that at an appropriate time.”
Again, “Chairman” Thompson said there’d be no criminal referrals. Liz Cheney, who is supposed to be a minority member on the committee, says no conclusion has been issued. Which is it? And why does it look so much like Nancy Pelosi’s friend Liz Cheney is the one who has really been running the committee the whole time?

You obviously aren’t listening to the hearings. There will be 7. 2 down, 5 to go. The committee has no power to arrest anyone, and they haven’t decided whether to refer charges to the DOJ, but the Dept. of Justice is now doing it’s own probes and will receive all the info the committee has gathered and then CAN make arrests and trials. The purpose of the hearings is to inform the public what the committee has found, not for taking rebuttals. The Repubs can make their own committee to do that. And the Repub leader Kevin denied 3 repubs the seats on the committee that Nancy did approve. Note that the live witnesses so far in the hearings have all been republicans. Don’t gripe until you listen to the hearings and the information the committee has been able to acquire.
