Mueller Sets Dumpster on Fire on His Way Out the Door

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has retired. He says his report on the investigation into alleged “Russian interference” in the 2016 election is his final testimony, and therefore he will not be speaking before Congress.

Then, in typical Mueller fashion, he took several back-handed swipes at the president, told several lies, invented a brand-new legal standard in Western jurisprudence, and all but begged Congress to impeach the Bad Orange Man who haunts every waking moment of all the Deep State bureaucrats in the Beltway.

Fanning the flames of impeachment while dodging any personal responsibility as a professional law enforcement agent seems to have been Mueller’s intent.

Mueller stated during his retirement speech, “Under long-standing department policy, a president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he’s in office… Charging the president with a crime was not an option we could therefore consider.”

In a particularly bizarre statement that turns the entire American system of justice on its head, Mueller said, “If we had confidence that the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”

Playing games with legal standards and the rule of law like this is maddening to anyone who has ever paid attention to these things. Here is the effect of what Mueller is saying:

Suppose a bank was robbed in Hollywood yesterday. Trump has an alibi – he was in Washington, DC at the time of the robbery. Mueller announces that while he cannot prove that Trump robbed the bank, he cannot conclusively say that Trump did not rob the bank. This is madness.

A prosecutor’s duty is to prove the guilt of a person accused of a crime. It’s not Robert Mueller’s job to say that Trump did not commit a crime. President Trump is innocent until proven guilty.

Mueller’s duty was to prove Trump’s guilt or shut up and walk away, because Trump is still, to this day, innocent. Instead, Mueller has muddied the waters by suggesting, “Well, maybe he did something, so Congress had better impeach the Bad Orange Man.”

Mueller’s claim that a president cannot be charged with a crime while he’s in office is also questionable. Mueller is playing games because he was unable to find evidence of crimes committed by President Trump.

If Mueller had found evidence of a crime, he could have stated in his report, “Here is the crime I found, here is the evidence which proves the crime happened, and therefore, I recommend that the president be charged with this crime.”

The independent Office of Legal Counsel would then make a recommendation on the DOJ policy as to whether or not it applied in this case. Policies are not carved-in-stone suicide pacts.

If Donald Trump murdered someone in the Rose Garden tomorrow in front of witnesses, he would be charged with murder. The Department of Justice wouldn’t hold a press conference and announce, “Sorry! Internal policy is sacrosanct! We can’t charge a president with a crime!”

Are people really this ignorant of how the law functions? Oh, wait. I just turned on MSNBC for five minutes. Yes, people really are that ignorant about how the law works.

Robert Mueller could have recommended charges against President Trump, but he did not because he found no evidence of crimes! Therefore, President Donald Trump is innocent.

Now Mueller wants to slink away and avoid testifying before Congress, after hinting that they really oughta impeach the Bad Orange Man because he may have done something illegal. This is such hogwash.

Mueller’s Machiavellian move will likely backfire on him now, however. The Democrats are so rabid to impeach Trump – and destroy anyone connected to him – that Mueller will likely be subpoenaed to testify. He won’t be able to creep away and write his book just yet.

In terms of sheer numbers, impeachment still does not look like a possibility for the House, despite the news media’s foaming at the mouth. Only 40 House Democrats have openly called for impeachment of President Trump.

They would need at least 69 additional votes to force a discharge petition vote on impeachment, and they may not have that many. Pelosi herself is opposed to impeachment, because she knows it would be political suicide for her Party next year. They’re a long way from the 219 votes they would need to actually impeach the president.

As for Mueller, he did what he set out to do. He muddied the waters, set a dumpster on fire on his way out the door and excused himself from any responsibility. Good riddance.
