MSM Nukes Story That Paints Obama as a Scoundrel

The United Nations has published a study that declares the United States to be a horrific child abuse haven. As with any story that paints America in a negative light, the mainstream media was all over it! Here was the evidence that journalists knew in their hearts to be true. Trump was putting kids in cages at the US-Mexico border.

The UN cited an estimated 100,000 kids locked in cages, often in shabby, dirty surroundings and sleeping on concrete floors with nothing to cover themselves at night except one of those tinfoil survivalist blankets that you can pick up for a buck at Walmart.

Keep in mind, this is not the previous incident in which pictures of kids in cages surfaced and it was later discovered that the caging had taken place during the Obama administration. This report from the UN was just published last week.

The villainous America, according to the UN, had more children incarcerated than any other nation on earth. Two of the largest news organizations in the world – Agence France Press (AFP) and Reuters – eagerly reported the damning story. It was just too good to pass up. With the terrible Bad Orange Man in the White House, how could they resist? The story affirmed every negative bias that the mainstream media holds against Trump. He’s an out-of-touch rich guy who hates immigrants so much that he locks little kids up in cages.

Before we get to the punchline, it’s important to understand the power and reach of AFP and Reuters. We’ll focus mainly on Reuters, but AFP is very similar in nature to how it operates. Reuters is a news distribution service for print media outlets and newspapers.

It employs some 2,500 reporters around the world. Regular newspapers can’t afford to send a reporter to a foreign country every time something happens there. So, they rely on Reuters as their distribution service. Another similar service you often see is the Associated Press or AP.

Nearly every news outlet on the planet subscribes the Reuters distribution service. If your local newspaper publishes an article about the latest happenings in Myanmar, that story likely was written by a Reuters reporter. As you can see, Reuters enjoys massive influence on the mainstream media. Almost every news outlet pays for access to Reuters, and in return, those outlets are free to pick and choose from the stories Reuters publishes – and reprint them in your local newspaper.

And now – back to our terrible child abuse nation!

After the report on America locking kids in cages was online for about a day, it suddenly vanished from the AFP service. It was gone. It evaporated like the audience at a Deval Patrick 2020 campaign rally. It was like the story had never existed. There was no explanation for why Agence France Press suddenly made the story disappear.

Next, Reuters took it down. But unlike AFP, Reuters did go to the trouble to publish a brief explanation of why the story was taken down:

“A Nov. 18 story headlined ‘U.S. has world’s highest rate of children in detention -U.N. study’ is withdrawn. The United Nations issued a statement on Nov. 19 saying the number was not current but was for the year 2015. No replacement story will be issued.”

Poof! Ho hum! The story was from 2015, which as we all know was a really long time ago. The news that America had the highest rate of children in detention on the planet was suddenly not newsworthy – when Reuters and AFP realized who was in charge in 2015. It’s interesting to note that “no replacement story will be issued.” That’s because if Reuters were to advance the story, they’d have to compare Obama’s rate of locking kids in cages to the changes that the Trump administration has made to this policy. And that might unintentionally make Trump look better than his predecessor.

This is an example of fake news by omission. The kids-in-cages story is certainly interesting, no matter which side of the immigration debate you’re on. But to Reuters, it didn’t portray the world as its professional journalists would like it to be. And by withdrawing the story, they attempted to make sure that no print outlet in the world would repeat the information. It was information that they didn’t want you to know, because it made one of their heroes look really bad.
